Call for Orchestra-Circus Internship: Reimagining Don Quixote within the project “Sounds of Change”
QUIXOTE, A EUROPEAN APPROACH THROUGH CIRCUS:
The clown and stage director Lolo Fernández will be in charge of the direction and dramaturgy, and the director, choreographer, and performer Greta García. The event will be produced by Truca Circus, the stage company of Noletia (Spain).
The final show will combine a circus cast of six performers (including Greta García and Lolo Fernández) with an orchestra of approximately eighty musicians, conducted by maestro Miguel Romea (Spain) and featuring Benedict Klöckner and David Loyd as soloists.

Audition excerpts:
All candidates will perform a piece or one movement from a concerto, with a duration of 3-4 minutes, and also the mandatory orchestral excerpts. The excerpts can be downloaded using the link below:
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, English horn, 2 clarinets in B♭ (2nd doubling E-flat clarinet), bass clarinet, 3 bassoons, contrabassoon, 6 horns in F, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, tenor tuba in B♭, tuba, 4 percussionists, 2 harps, violins i, ii, violas, violoncellos, double basses.
CALENDAR AND LOCATION OF REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES:
In July 2024, immerse yourself in the Orchestral Artistic Internship (Orchestral Academy) with the ensemble of the scenic proposal in Guarda, Portugal.
Selected artists are required to be available for both the Orchestral Academy and the concerts scheduled in Portugal and Spain.
Explore the following key events:
– 05/07: Reception of academists (String, international artists)
– 06/07: Reception of academists (percussion, winds, and harp)
– 11/07: Concert at Guarda Municipal Theatre, Portugal
– 12/07: Concert at Maria Matos Theatre in Lisbon, Portugal.
– 13/07: Conclude the journey with a spectacular concert at the Castle of Niebla in Huelva, Spain.
More specific details regarding dates and venues for rehearsals and performances will be communicated as soon as possible.
SELECTION:
The Artistic directors and instrumental teachers who will also be part of the orchestra.
ABOUT SOUNDS OF CHANGE:
Sounds of Change is a project funded by the European Union through the Creative Europe programme that focuses mainly on generating opportunities for young musicians as well as artists from other disciplines.
Among other activities, Sounds of Change provides musicians with residencies, rehearsals, and performances in an international context, workshops, master classes, seminars, and training activities. Contexts that encourage exchanges among established artists and young artists, including the creation of different pieces, shows, and productions, and the “Orchestral Academy,” an orchestra of young musicians that is convened every summer.
Sounds of Change aims to contribute to rethinking the Europe of the future in a sustainable environment that acknowledges the different identities and values that make up Europe. It is from this perspective that each of its projects and activities is created.
Innovation, multidisciplinary, staging work, and the generation of professional experiences of international exchange are part of the spirit of Sounds of Change and the Quixote project.
Five partners are part of Sounds of Change: The Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra (OFP) as project leaders, together with the National Theatre of Serbia (Serbia), the Koblenz International Music Festival (Germany), and the BSA (Be Successful Artist) Association (Slovenia) and Noletia (Spain).
